He began the sport at age seven in Tsukumi, Japan.
Why this sport?
A family member took him to a pool. He was inspired to focus on swimming after watching Japanese swimmer Kosuke Kitajima win gold in the 100m breaststroke at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
