The brand mascot for this event is Splasher, the Sailfish.
A representation of athletic speed, power and aquatic prowess, the Sailfish is one of the fastest fish in the ocean, making it the perfect icon for the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) Windsor 2016. In addition to its sheer velocity, the Sailfish also possesses a vibrant array of colours, which is an ideal symbol of our region’s cultural diversity.
Early in 2015 Mayor Drew Dilkens launched a public naming contest throughout the schools in the region. Contests applied online as well as at City Hall and the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre. Hundreds took part in the exciting naming event, but only one young lady named Julianne, from St. Gabriels’ school in Windsor was the winner!
Selected by The Local Organizing Committee, the group felt “Splasher” was a fun, energetic name that would reflect the ‘splash’ that this event, and its athletes would make in Windsor. In addition to bragging rights, Julianne was awarded and also received 4 tickets to the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) Windsor 2016 Opening Ceremonies.
